SALFORD’S war heroes were honoured at an official ceremony at Agecroft Crematorium on Saturday morning (November 8).

The event was organized by the Royal British Legion, with the support of the Salford City Council, to recognize those ‘who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today’.

The service began at 10:45am (GMT). Crosses and poppy wreaths were placed at three grave sites – the 13 Commonwealth war graves; the memorial garden, which is to commemorate citizens who had lost their lives in Salford during World War II; and the stone memorial honouring the seven-man crew of the Lancaster bomber that crashed in 1944.

Salford’s ceremonial mayor, Christine Hudson, was also in attendance.
